Parasyte the Grey: 2024 Sci-Fi K-Drama Only on Netflix
“Parasyte the Grey” is a Korean drama series, released in 2024, with 6 episodes, categorized as a science fiction (sci-fi) thriller, action, and could be considered horror. This is a Korean adaptation of a popular manga (“Parasyte” by Japanese author Hitoshi Iwaaki) and anime series (“Parasyte: The Maxim”).
♦ Why Do the Aliens Always Want to Eat Our Brains?
In “Parasyte the Grey”, if a person had an advance warning they would probably wear earplugs. That’s how the parasyte gets into their brain. It goes through the human ear. Honestly! It’s not fair. The aliens don’t have ears. They’re just creepy crawlies like insects; insecticide spray doesn’t get rid of them and they move too fast for you to crush them with your feet.
For once, having bad health is a blessing. The parasyte tried to infect Jeong Su-In and live off of her as its host. But for some reason, it didn’t make it into her brain. It seems that if you’re healthy the parasyte will make its home within you and never leave. But if you’re sick, that sort of makes the parasyte “sick” too.
Jeong Su-In is a “mutant”. But does it also make her a sort of weapon that can be used against the parasyte? That’s a truly excellent question.
No doubt it’s a question that Choi Jun-Kyung would like answered since she is the head of a Task Force that was established to rid the world of these invaders. She lost her husband, so her mission to destroy these invaders is professional and personal.
Seol Kang-Woo‘s younger sister has gone missing and he is chasing after parasytes because he thinks they have taken her. He at least needs closure. Is she dead or alive? Not knowing her whereabouts is agonizing!
While the task force is working on a plan to save the world, the parasytes or the “kin” are increasing in number and working on a plant to take over! The “kin” want to use Jeong Su-In too!
It is very hard to recognize these parasytes because once they take a human host they look exactly like the human. You’ll never guess how they disguise themselves to blend in with the humans. Umm… they look like a church congregation? Hey! Good guess!
However, the government has developed an x-ray machine that can scan people to determine if they are a host. That’s a plus! But is there a way to kill them without killing the human too?

There was and is clearly a lot of hype surrounding “Parasyte the Grey”. This Kdrama series was highly anticipated and was released on Netflix, on April 5, 2024. It’s been about 2 weeks and there are lots of ratings and reviews.
This is what the manga author had to say:
- “I felt that the creators of Parasyte: The Grey greatly respected the original work,” commented Iwaaki, “At the same time, I could see unique creative branches and ideas throughout the series and enjoyed it as both the original author and as a true ‘audience member’. Each episode’s plot development is dynamic with a quick tempo that makes it very entertaining.” (Quote Source)
I respect Mr. Iwaaki’s point of view. But…
My personal rating is 7.5 out of 10 stars.
Six (6) episodes were more than enough. If my rating were based solely on special effects, it would be 9 out of 10 stars.
